It is good to split wood!

Ray's latest obsession in Wasilla is cutting wood. He has searched the woods in nearby areas to find trees that have been cut down for new construction. He has been successful in finding gold mines of birch wood. We have gone together often as a family to cut the wood and then haul the logs in our little handy dandy trailer. Ray uses his chainsaw to cut the wood at the sight and then we bring it home and use a log splitter (which you rent for a day) and prepare our firewood for the winter. I love having real fires. I love the crackling of the wood and the smell of wood burning. There is such a calming feeling as a family sits aroud a fire together. We are having a Soapstone fireplace installed in December. They are made in Finland and the soapstone holds the heat all day and radiates it out so you are roasty toasty and save tons of $ on the gas bill. That is our goal. We have been planning for this fireplace for a while and are grateful that it will be arriving hopefully before Christmas. There was not a fireplace in this home when we bought it, so it worked out perfectly.

The other photo is of Stephen using his 'cell phone.' It is so cute how babies love telephones. They just love to push the buttons. Stephen accidently hung up on Bethanie today from pushing the wrong button, sorry Beth. : )

Just reporting in Mari, my walk today with the two gal pals was 2 1/2 hours long. Whew! I did it and then came home and cooked halibut au gratin for dinner. I appreciate your encouragement. Tomorrow's walk is for an hour since I need to get home early to help Ray split more wood. yes, I'm a true Valley girl now, like yah! Totally and for sure!

love you all,
Kary

It looks like you could build another house with all that wood! Too bad you cannot ship some our way. Charles is looking to buy some wood for the winter here, he has been looking on craigslist! Silly! Unfortunately, they won't let us cut our trees down in the backyard. :-) We are also looking forward to fires at night while reading the Hobbit. Fun times. Looks like Ray is in his element there. I am glad you have a happy place. : )

Good job walking! Keep up the good work. I promise in time you will feel your strength return!

An icky story. . .

It is amazing what your mind can do to trick you. Remember how I got a bread chunk stuck in my tonsils awhile back? I thought I was sick cause I saw white spots and I even started to feel sick until I got it out with a Q-tip. I noticed it happens a lot to me, like once a month or more now, and it is always just bread (gross!) When I was young I would go to the doctor a lot and they would swipe my throat and it would come back positive as a yeast infection. Thinking back now I think it was bread! Yuck! Then they would give me anti-biotics and they would ruin my immune system and then I would really get sick! Anyhow, my point is, I was not always sick (sometimes it was really strep though). I just thought I was sick, or should have been, so I started to believe I was and I would start to feel I was sick! Weird! Mind over matter. Sometimes weakness is centered in our minds. Luckily, as children of God we are blessed with courage and strength to press forward and overcome our physical weaknesses!

Mindy could have sat on her butt and said she was too weak to be strong. Instead she was a powerhouse of strength and she learned how to deal with her weakness and I believe it turned into a strength for her - she had to master her body. She did! Awesome Mindy - you are a great example of strength of mind over body! I have much respect for you! You are full of strength!

If we can get our minds in control of our bodies nothing is impossible! I know that for certain!

Lots of love,

Mari
